I had a regular visit to my oncologist because I had prostate cancer. This visit I casually mention some different symptoms and he says “You’ve lost 10 lbs since your last visit. You might be diabetic!” Nurse checks my blood sugar 460! He tells me I need to see an endocrinolgist right away. I can’t get an appointment for a month. He says I can’t wait that long and he gets me an appoinment in 2 days.
Little bit of insulin and diet change, lost another 11 pounds and I am now 162 lbs, eI have it under control, staying in the 80 to 130 range.
So this is where my morning visit to the Wawa food store gets interesting. I see this guy every day. He buys a 24 oz coffee and Dumps sugar in from a canister, maybe a quarter of it! Then he adds a huge amount of French Vanilla flavoring which is almost pure sugar. Finally he tastes it and shakes a whole bunch more sugar in!!!
So would I be out of line speaking to him about diabetes and offering to test his blood sugar with the meter I have in my pocket? Because it may just save his life.

Sugar is MORE addicting than Cocaine, Heroin, etc. THE most addicting drug on the planet and 100% uncontrolled and legal. It is a SLOW POISON. It will kill you....eventually.
STOP consuming sugar. But you can't......because you're addicted. So limit sugar intake to a minimum.
Nothing good comes from consuming it. You can naturally (unless you're type 1) control BSL in most cases by cutting out intake of ALL sugar which includes starches, Carbs, etc.
DO NOT consume High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Sugar intake does not directly cause type 2 diabetes. Some lucky fucks can eat sugar by the spoonful every day and not have a problem...me, if I even look twice at sugar my blood sugar goes up 10 points.

Surprised he didn't send you to the er at 460...

Oh yeah, I forgot. He did send me to the ER when I couldn't get a quick appointment. Good doctor, he guided me though getting treated for prostate cancer. He told me right up front that a lot of doctors don't like him because he advocates 100% for the patient. I got my prostate removed by the Davinci Robot. My urologist wanted to do the robot surgery. He suggested I learn more about it. I found out it takes about 400 surgeries to get to your best, my urologist had done 25, the doctor that did it had 3000!

And I thought this thread was asking what to do when you dont want to do machining anymore...
I guess in a way it is, you go to the hospital.
Me three. Not the in metal working...
First choice is to be a cook in a hotel. I miss the line and industry daily.
Second/third. Museum industry, installation and conservation
Third/second. Politician

Hospital last on list

Museum industry, installation and conservation
Dream job right there^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
We have a family friend who has a PHD in History.

He Curates the Custer museum in Monroe Mi.

If I still lived there, I'd work there for free.

I can't believe folks get paid to do that job.

Museums basically have two functions: exhibitions, and collections. The two hardly interact. Collections support scientific research, which is a huge section of museum operations. My dad was/is heavily involved with the American Museum of Natural History, in NYC. It's a cool place, and his career took him all over the globe.

When my good job went away (I did experimental machining and made prototype parts for an aircraft components company), went back to school (there were no jobs that paid anything) at age 50 and became a respiratory therapist, drove bipaps and vents for a living under the idea that patients were unlikely to be put on a 747 and sent to India for care. Finished the run at a local hospital; missed the machining and the environment.

I'd be a Gigilo. Glad I chose the profession I did or I may have gone hungry and needed a specialist for all kinds of ailments. I like crabs but only on my plate for dinner.

Father Marquette was told two things before starting his journey on the great river, "Never tell an Indian what to do or criticize what he eats, or he likely may kill you.
I believe back in the 1600s if one told an Indian what to do the the teller became responsible for any misfortunes.

"Oh, Oh what you say" ( I used to be able to say that in Lakota Sioux.. but now forgotten)..Oh Oh yeah she pa?....roughly, you have a terrible wound and likely will die.

RE: title-> OT not machining, what would you do?
Sit out on the patio, have a cold drink / go fishing / make a bratwurst sandwich.
