Speaking of rigging, I did this today. 1-3/4"-5 thread.

I called Hillman today. They would not give a spec on a 3/8-16 U-nut because they are not intended for critical applications.
He asked "what do you want to use them for?" I replied that they were supplied as mounting hardware for a winch bumper. he said "Absolutely do not use those!"
That pretty much answers my questions. Should have just called them in the first place.
I would still like hard numbers so I could go back to these guys (the bumper manufacturer) with engineering data and ask them "WTF man?!"

I don't know that these U-nuts are Hillman (probably not). Was just an easy place to find somebody to ask about them.
Also did not know Hillman has a local customer service to me.

I also tried to call a few bumper manufacturers and talk about mounting. I was only able to get one guy to talk to me. Super nice guy! (and also local, I tried to drum up some work, LOL).
His general "rules of thumb" (which were unofficial because he said nobody ever asked him this question, LOL) would be:
If you are using the same size fasteners as the ones that mount the winch? Double the number. So, 4 winch bolts = 4 bumper bolts per side.
He also said his bumpers for Jeep JLs use 1/2" Grade-8. Which is what I used. In 3 of the 4 holes per side.
The 4th hole is impossible to get to. I used the gay U-nut in those ones. But I replaced the bolt/washer with Grade-8 and a thick/hardened large dia. washer.

... usually the winches dont have enough juice to pull that much weight when fully spooled out of the drum.( most of the pulling rated strength is max dia of the spool drum)
once you are down to the last wrap it drops significantly from 10K down to about 3.5K

This is bass ackwards. A winch has rated line pull with the first layer only. Every additional layer reduces line pull.

Yip. When he said it I had to do a "double think".
But yea, backwards.
Having changed up as many dirt-bike sprocket tooth counts to move the power around as I have in my lifetime, you get a pretty good understanding of that concept.
I left it be because there was already enough back & forth not relevant to my original question going on.

That might be different but I see the "rational" and obvious connection.
If fact this was my first real world experience into the gearing change world. Drop or add one tooth up front, big change, Two on the back a tad.
Only crazy people did this. I officially nominate the wheelie guy here as not normal with the pride due.
The name wheelieking71 makes one wonder. Longest ridden on nice road? That does not really count... gravel, dirt roads and off trails.
Real bikers do it in the dirt.

That’s backwards. Bare drum pull is how a winch is rated. The torque is constant and as each layer makes the radius larger the force reduces in proportion.

I have been wheelieking71 on the internet since the webTV days! (yea, that long).
The name is not about me. It is a tribute to my childhood hero Doug Domokos. The real Wheelie King. 71 is my birth year.
Although today, he would have more company than he could handle. There are so many riders out there with absolutely insane skills!
I have the "wheelie gene". I can do a decent wheelie. If you ever met me, first impression you would never expect it. Overweight, half crippled.
But, I've been riding my whole life (since 6). You can't do something that long and not be at least decent at it.
Longest wheelie I've ever ridden was just over 1 mile on a Honda CR500, 5th gear, on flat straight tarmac. I set it down cause I had made my point and I was bored.
The front wheel had long stopped spinning. Was actually spinning backwards slowly My buddy in the car told me. That is when you better be on your game. It gets sketchy!
Anyways, it spun on the rim, ripped the valve-stem out, and I had to ride home on a flat! LOL. (I have never put that dumb nut on a valve-stem since!)
I like long sweepers. Always fun ripping a wheelie around one. Fastest I have ever gone on one wheel was 145 on a Suzuki SV1000.
These days I don't ride much, and I'm real rusty. I also don't really like the power-curve of my current bike for wheelies.
I'm spoiled by 450 4-strokes now. These days I am on a 300 2-stroke with super linear power. No "hit". I can do decent on tarmac on it (traction). But, on dirt? Not so much.
The ergos at the brake pedal on my current bike are also not great. So I'm still struggling with that. With my fucked up right leg it has to be perfect.
This bike, I can either have it set up for wheelies, or for actual riding. Riding is priority! So, not so "wheelieking" lately.

I always laugh at these jeeps with all kinds of "cool" decorations on them and "mud terrain" tires on them...wtf is mud terrain anyways, it's either a super swamper or it's not. Anyways, I always think it's cute when they run through a mud puddle to get them dirty. If there ain't clumps of dirt and grass/weeds stuck everywhere it ain't muddin. Stupid pavement princesses, that goes for the pickup guys too.

If I didn't at least almost get stuck it wasn't a truly good day off road lol.
