"I don't think it is possible to buy a wind up watch, or a self winder, a mechanical watch, today, more's the shame."
Don't get out much, do you?
There are lots of mechanical watches, including automatics, being produced today. In fact, in the last decade there has been an explosion of available mechanical movements and finished watches; in addition, there are probably more hand-built watches, of best quality, available now than at any time in the last 50 years.
You won't see them at Wal-Mart; head down to your local well-stocked jeweler and prepare to be amazed.
