I am in an E-mail conversation with another PM member and he asked what year Pacemakers started using hardened steel ways? I thought it was sometime in the 40's but don't know for sure. My Pacemaker is in storage (between shops right now) made in 1952 and I can't recall if the bed ways are hardened steel or not. So, can someone enlighten us on when the switch over occurred? And was it with some models earlier or later than others?

I read through the Pacemaker literature that I have, and it didn't say anything specific about hardening. It just described the blend of metal that was used in making the ways. I have a '43. I may get a '45 very soon. However, my hope is to get a '53 that is in great condition. The four-V ways are great on these machines. I completely agree with all the reasons they used them. Good stuff.

Bulletin 15 (10/41) does not show inserted ways. Bulletin 16 (5/55) shows inserted ways. Maybe there are some interim pubs, but I don't have them
