Relocating business to LA, California. Is that a good idea?

Say what you will about the pros/cons of living in LA or elsewhere on the west coast. But, where else do you get paid for living?

If you bought a "starter" home in a relatively safe neighborhood 4 years ago for $1M it'd now be worth $1.5. That's $125K a year just for breathing.

"......That's $125K a year just for breathing...."
Don't know much about the tax implications....might be California and the Fed is gonna want a share of your good fortune....
You can legally avoid all capital gains taxes by putting the money in a charitable trust. The trust can be invested to provide annual dividends to you which are taxable as regular income (some types of investments are not taxable). The remainder of the trust on your death can be passed on to one individual.

That's one way high rollers avoid capital gains taxes.

I JUST watched this vid last night!
Makes yuh wunna "bigger boat".

My brother nearly did buy a bigger boat, until his wife intercepted the transaction.
The boat I’m on is 37’ and safe in big seas.
While I’d be heaving my guts up over the Gunales though

I would love to have a sailboat like that, but I'm nowhere close to the sea and I've never had much time for anything.

Maybe one day....

We have a port on the Great Lakes only 1.5 hrs away from here - so that's not quite the same thing, it'd be better'n nutt'n.

Put-in-bay and Kelly's island are pretty cool I am guessing you would be talking about the port of Toledo? Spent plenty of time in the Toledo area back in the early 1980's

Well, my plater normally docks his sailboat in Port Clinton, but he has had it in Cederville, Mich the last few years.
So he is hitting The Georgian Bay and whatnot these days.

Not sure if they are planning on bringing it back down this year or not?

I'm actually not a whole lot further from Lake Michigan either.
I'm sorta in the middle of the two.

Well, that is a problem for me.
I don't get out much, and my gut doesn't care for much wishy worshy...

Although our trip to Cape Horne earlier this year was completely w/o issue.

If I git down to Myrtle Beach one day, I plan to at least rent what I can.
I actually searched it a few days ago and you can at least rent 16' Hobie Cats.
Not nearly the same thing, but I doubt that your gunna find someone renting out a 24' sloop. LOL!

I learned myself on a 14' plastic sailboat >40 yrs ago and took that out through the channel out into Lake Michigan and made the turn back w/o issue. It was pretty big seas as it was the east side of the lake, so the wind had 125 miles or whatnot to git'r going... I did git in trouble for going WAY too far from where I left as they couldn't see me most of the time that I was gone. I didn't know the rules, and darn glad that I didn't!

It's mechanical, I can finger it out...

We sailed from Southampton UK to Jersey and now Brittany France, then along to Normandy, as far as distances go the Great Lakes are more expansive then the area were in.
On the other hand the Great Lakes don’t have the great places to visit like the Brittany/Normandy coast, great food, very few heavy Sheila’s about.
French waitresses can be kinda rude, make up for it by being super hot though. And they shave their legs😝

Don’t know about the Great Lakes but where we are now is a very rocky coastline, plenty of room for painfull error if not careful

Yes, California is a good choice for CNC machining with many suppliers and outsourcing partners available. Аverage CNC pay rates vary, $20-$35/hour for 3-axis and $35-$60/hour for 5-axis. There is a strong demand for these services. Consider the San Fernando Valley or coastal areas for milder weather and business-friendly locations. While California does have crime, it varies widely by area. Research specific neighborhoods for more accurate information.

Dude, you're in SONORA. You have to drive an hour to get to the metropolois of Modesto. The whole county has 55,000 people. The entire population would fit in Dodger Stadium. At least be honest.
Most of my life I lived in Los Angeles area. You make it sound like Sonora is not a nice place to live. Why do you think liking Sonora is not being honest ? And when I lived in Los Angeles many of my friends drove an hour or more each way to get to work. Here people bitch if they get hung up more than 5 minutes getting to their destination.

I never said Sonora wasn't a nice place to live. Sonora is also not a place where a manufacturing business is going to get any of the benefits of living near a place like Los Angeles (which was the whole topic of this thread).

Sonora is practically the poster child for white flight. Want to get away from California but stay in California? Redding. Oh, too far? Okay, Sonora.

You still have the same crap laws and taxes the rest of us do. One long time friend's parents lived in Sonora and he was up there constantly. Another friend's brother currently lives in Strawberry. I'm familiar with the area. When somebody says "I want to live the California lifestyle" they aren't imagining Modesto as being their "big city."
