Hi All:
I spent a bit of time today trying to find a 35 degree 1/4 IC 0.2mm tip rad sharp (no edge hone) turning insert from the Sandvik website.
Man what a useless site!
I do this every once in a long while and I'm always pissed off at the end of it...is it just me or is this site cumbersome for others too?

Almost every bit of information I need to have is hard to find...I can get to the inserts that have the correct shape, but finding out whether or not they're edge honed or dead sharp for aluminum and plastics...no joy.
It's like if you don't already know the code for the insert you want, Sandvik is certainly not gonna make it easy for you to pick something suitable.

If I could hit someone at Sandvik on the head for setting up such a stupid site, I would!

I'm going to call a tooling sales guy at my local distributor and just dump the whole effin shit into his lap.
Let's see how he does!

Cheers

They are all getting to be that way. The more that "web designers" update sites, the worse they get. Plus when I get the "update your browser to see our site! it's free!" I just leave. Fuck them and the diseased opossum they rode in on. Make sure to wear a rubber.

I wonder if the people who actually want to make sales are aware of this ? It's all just text and photos, there's no need for any of this stupid shit.

I think it is intentional. they want to send a salesman to your company and hard sell stuff. Just like Amazon's worthless search function. they figure you will buy something anyway so just spend money maybe it will be something you can use. If not buy something else when it comes in and you can not use it.
I used to feel bad about ordering the wrong thing and having them pay to return it. But I have come to realize it is not my fault if their search function is wrong.
I am actually doing them a favor by ordering the wrong stuff and making them take it back. Do this enough and they will decide to spend money on getting the information out there.

You know what they say about tool makers. First you get good and then you get grumpy.

Imagine what your clicking around on their website did for the web developer. He's probably told Sandvik that he will increase the web traffic with his crappy improvements, seeing how traffic is measured in clicks he's clearly done an excellent job. Nobody bothers to tell these idiots their storefront is not selling ladies handbags where if you show them some shoes they will buy those also. We go looking for a specific item and aren't suddenly going to purchase random shit we don't need and get really pissed off when we can't find it easily.

Most companies have sales staff. You can call them to help with your requirements. You are paying for them whether you use them or not.

I do this s lot. "I'm on your website now. How the eff does it work?"

It's a shame it's this way. And the phone just rings after hours.

I find machine manufacturers making stupid, unsafe videos about grinders and wheel usage..go figure.
One I Emailed them to explain what was wrong with their video..and they discontinued making the machine.
New carbide grade names are a turkey shoot..I would wish they would tell where their grace fall near the old C grading system..and include multi-C grading for grades that can function in various materials.

They are the ones who created this garbage, what good does it to do talk to them ? Except maybe to do some serious customer-satisfaction commenting, which they won't listen to either.

These people are imbeciles.
You really think you'll get hold of web designers when you call tech support?

I usually have pretty good results with tech support. If I get hold of an idiot I hang up and call back. Hold times have increased a bunch in recent years, and knowledgeable support too. But you can't call support after hours, and you shouldn't have to with a decent website.

The sites I hate the most have the moronic black background with dark grey lettering in the smallest font possible! Same with like menus in a dark restaurant!

I went to their site recently - tgrying to figger out what inserts a different sized 880 drill needed, and could not find any info to speak of.

Same with like menus in a dark restaurant!

We don't even have menus anymore, everyone is trying to get away with putting their stuff on wechat. Scan the qr code on the table and see what they have and order from that and pay from that.

I hate it to death, and won't go to the places that won't produce a menu that I can look at and take money. Real money, pieces of meaningless paper but still, something you can hold in your hand.

You damn kids get offa my lawn !

You're far from the first to hate it and say so.

I like it. The functionality is awesome. The crossindexing is awesome. If I want a specific tool or insert, or a replacement screw, or cutting data for some specific niche thing, or a solid model of a fully assembled modular tool, I can get it in seconds.

However, I can appreciate that it is not intuitive. It's a tool that you have to learn and Sandvik have their own terminology for everything so it's a pain for those who don't think that way.

But I always respond in this manner to threads like this, because I really hope that they don't respond to the criticisms and dumb it down.

Haven't been for a while, so you made me confirm my impressions. Okay, go to sandvik.com :

I don't care about their sustainability, how they harnesses collective intelligence to empower smart factories of the future, how they are driven by their passion to continuously innovate smarter solutions and enable important shifts. They can put their stupid corpspeak where the sun don't shine.

Ok, get past the hot air to be "transferred to another of their sites" to try to find data on knux inserts (because I like those, it'll be a good test.)

And .... nothing. Sits there and sits there and sits there with a blurry dark bar passing across the screen. And that's it.

Fuck Sandvik. They can take their products and ram them up their ass.

Tim Berners-Lee specifically designed the web so that any and all devices could view information. It is a medium for transmitting information, not impressing the peasants with how adorable their programmers are. All that we need is text and graphics. We do not need hopping bunny rabbits, coolaroonie effects, blink tags, popups dropdowns translators to dialects spoken by eskimos and interactive elephant parking. Just give me the damn data, thank you very much.

And if they are too stupid and lazy to drop back to standard fucking html then they can go directly to hell and take their worthless products with them.

Did I mention that sandvik can go fuck themselves ?

Haha!

Well, for a start Sandvik.com is not the right website - Sandvik is a group of companies and cutting tools are not their primary business.

Sandvik Coromant are the cutting tools company - https://www.sandvik.coromant.com/en-gb/tools

It's not just the website that is obscure and occult, try looking at the catalogue. They decided that the abbreviations we've all been using (doc, loc, etc.) need to be something with three or six letters and numbers that have no intuitive bearing on the data to which they relate. There are a few that one can figure out, but not many.

That said, my supplier claims once one figures out the website, it's very functional. I don't know, I have no time for another bad UI.
