Sanity Check - Need help with feeds/speeds for 1in Spade Drill

mores consistent tool life

We use spade drills a lot in the lathes, and it's so ugly when an insert dies and you can't shut things down before that expensive insert holder is turned into junk in a second or two. That's what's kept us away from the more expensive twist on type drills. It seems to me that the manufacturer's feeds and speeds are a catch 22 for them, they want you to realize the advantages but not go backwards paying for broken drills and scrapped parts.

Yeah I've used a Carboloy indexable drill with the formed head. They kick ass but if a chip binds in the hole while you're hauling ass you can kiss the end of the drill body goodbye. I have successfully re-cut the ends though.
