We use spade drills a lot in the lathes, and it's so ugly when an insert dies and you can't shut things down before that expensive insert holder is turned into junk in a second or two. That's what's kept us away from the more expensive twist on type drills. It seems to me that the manufacturer's feeds and speeds are a catch 22 for them, they want you to realize the advantages but not go backwards paying for broken drills and scrapped parts.
