Starrett 3812 Ultrasonic Thickness Gage

I am looking into this gadget and was wondering if anyone has any real world experience with it?

I would mostly be checking wall thicknesses on cavities ranging from .02-.125 in Al.

Seems to be pretty old tech. Salesman will tell me whatever he has to to sell me one so I'd rather avoid calling him right away.
