It probably been discussed somewhere on the net, however I would like someone on PM that has used SubTools 5C collets.

Once or twice a year I buy a couple of replacement 5C collets for my HLV-H lathe, when they are on sale. The posted specs are pretty much the same, but what the quality like. I don’t care for buying things thinking I can return it if I don’t like the quality.

If Suburban actually made them I don't think quality would be a question, but these sets are 'imports'. I'd think Suburban would be picky about the quality of anything they sell, but I've never seen or used their collet sets.

Having spent a day correcting one of their indexer mounting bases, I'm not so enamored of their quality. That was 25 years ago, hopefully that's changed.

I'd rate their quality proportional to price. Compare Harig or Newbould....

I dunno.
I bought a new 6"x6" square Suburban mag chuck about 10 years
ago, and it was really weak. I needed it for a fixture and I
would have returned it, if it were not needed for a hot job.
That kind of turned me off to their mag chucks.

Typically I have found Brown and Sharpe mag chucks
notoriously very week, but they were always old as the hills.
Conversely, every old Walker chuck I have used was as strong
as heII.
