Toolmaster 1d help needed .

So I just picked up a new to me 1d toolmaster. It has some issues but I got it up and running to test it out.
I am new to machining so a little lost.
The main issue I am having is the y axis. It won't lock no matter how hard I clamp it. And when running a pass it keeps moving away from the piece of stock. And if I turn the knob now the whole table keeps moving away. Almost like it is running out of thread.
So I can't even get the vise under the end mill. Any help would be great. Thanks guys

I can understand Y axis is not locking. The rest is difficult to understand. Related to the same issue ? or other problems ?
