Useful to reduce jig clearance when reaming?

Normally I have about 1/4" clearance gap between a jig plate and the work to allow for chips, more or less depending on the hole size. Recently I saw a presentation by a guy who was recommending reducing or eliminating that clearance during subsequent reaming and he was saying that it increased accuracy. I do not see how that would be possible that the clearance gap would affect the movement of reamer significantly.

Is there any value to this idea that you should tighten the jig plate against work when reaming? I ask because it will be a significant pain in the ass to make jig setups with two different Z positions and I don't want to waste a lot of time verifying the value of this, if it is just some guy's crazy fantasy.
