We are looking to quote a job that is calling for ph13-8 mo stainless. If anyone has experience with it can you let me know how it machines and any recommendations for inserts for turning?

Treat it like a tool steel like o1 or d2...carbide only i prefer AlTiN for the ph materials, decent feeds and speeds...watch for chip recutting, it'll ruin your cutter and your day lol.

It's been a minute and I can't remember the condition but I've made a bunch of 2" round parts about .4 thick with windows cut through.

It was tougher on inserts than 316ss. We started by barfeeding but decided sawing worked better. It was hell on parting inserts. The part had a .1 high hub and we used the off corner on a cnmg insert for roughing. That removed the bulk of the stock so kinda free roughing inserts. Finished with cngp inserts. Sandvik inserts. If I cut it again I'd use their best stainless grade to finish.

The milling didn't seem to be that bad. It finished quite nicely on the mill.
