We never got it working, and didn't get any service from Haco. We had Enutron come out and install their hardware and controller. That works well for us, only Haco thing left on the brake is the frame/casting.

good info for future reference I reckon.
Plan is to make a rack so we can heat treat multiple units at a time, that's why we went with one that size.
In a big ventilated area to get rid of the heat fast.
Good day everyone,
after doing some research we decided on a heat treat furnace that we feel would work good for our heat treating needs. . We decided on the Olympic FL12E Car Kiln. Anyone have experience with these? Pros and cons?
The parts are D2 rollers, not bigger than 10" diameter...
Hi everyone,
I have a job where I am making a driveshaft with splines in the lathe, and the splines have to line up for correct drive-line phasing. I do not have a sub spindle, and cutting flat spots for references would likely off-balance the shaft. What other options do I have?
Good day everyone,
We are planning on installing a Renishaw probe on our Mori Sieki NL3000 machine. Does anyone use a probe on their turret machine? Pros and cons? do you use software for inspection tool-paths? Is it all programmed via macros?
Any info is appreciated.
I did think of that - I didn't know that I could put a probe in the lathe to do that. Wouldn't the machine have to be compatible with the software and such?
No, this is all done on a CNC mill/turn center, a NL3000y. With CNC I realize the margin for on the profile is considerably small but I still want to be able to measure everything to make sure.
I don't consider myself tech-savvy enough to do that myself, but I suppose I can always learn. What...
I don't necessarily have to measure the part in the machine, a small CMM would do the trick. Tolerences would be 0.0005-0.001.
The biggest roller we make/recondition is 16" wide, 10" diameter. Around 125 lbs.
Right, calipers are fast. See the photos - each of these rollers have a different radius and sure I could buy a bunch of radius gauges but these are on-going jobs, that would take too much time. I need a faster solution, like laser. What company can you recommend?
Good day everyone,
we manufacture and recondition rollers that are used on tubemills. All the rollers have different profiles for different shaped tube (eg round, square or rectangles), and cannot easily/quickly be measured with micrometers and/or calipers. Up till now we have been trying with...
Good day, I actually finished hardening and tempering the part itself - a 6" diameter roller, 4.5" high with a 1.8" bore. Hardness tested as 57RC. Very pleased with the results. This piece soaked 3 hours at 1832F for hardening, and at 482F for 2 hours tempering, did that twice. wondering if I...
Sure been a big help sir.
So for take 2, I took it out of the oven at 1832F this morning. Once it was cooled down to 40C I took a hardness test and it rang at 57HRC. Its in the oven again for tempering now. Will hardness change at all after tempering?
I read somewhere to "begin temper when cool down temp reaches 122F." I wonder why that would be, what are your thoughts @Jatrox
So I will fire the furnace up during the night and then it should be ready to take out and unwrap sometime in the morning. I will skip the stress relief like you...
I would say it did get hot enough, 6.00" diameter, 2.00" bore and 4.5" wide - it was at 1832F for 3 hours. But yeah I did not remove it from the oven to cool down.
That makes sense. I will try again and take it out of the oven for cool down.
Thanks a lot for the info.
EDIT: How would this...
Yes, I tested the hardness after tempering. I will bump up the time and try it again. I did have the part in the kiln while it was preheating.
Once heat treating was done I actually just let it cool down with the kiln to 122F before the temper, so it took something like 7-8 hours to cool. Would...
It actually does have a programmable ramp controller, this is the oven I am using: https://www.soundingstone.com/collections/skutt-electric-kilns/products/skutt-kmt1018-3-pottery-ceramic-kiln-208-or-240-volt
But would the oven internal temp and the test part itself have different temps? The part...
I took a test piece out of the oven - take 1 results:
The piece is a dull gray color, looks like it did not oxidize at all, so that step looks good.
As for the hardness, it measures as 22 HRC and we were looking for 58-60 HRC so we definitely need to improve that. Where would you guys look for...
If it would be one part only that we need then sure, we'd let the pros do it. But for me, I like to do things on my own, ovens for doing small parts are not at all expensive. But I hear you - should probably try on a smaller piece first.
Never heard of the paper towel trick, I will do that. So...
