Thanks Ross, I will check it out. I did clean off the universal joint thing above of grease to see if it was the cause, (Was thinking it was flinging off to the commutator below),but no did the same thing, so I relubed with very little grease. I will check out the seal in the gear box.
On my 2NC, if the machine sets for any length of time (like a month)I have to clean the "Z" tach, because of the noise. It is very weird, maybe mad that I am not using her. There will be no noise when I shut it off, come back a month later, Noise! I am starting think that the brushes are soft...
Another thumps up on the Phase Perfect, you won't look back. A plus is the high resell value. When I moved into a shop with 3 phase, I sold the PP for close to what I purchased it for.
Try A Tech Authority in Chino. They have some parts for repair, but they told me that it's getting slim pickings and are using spares now for the internals.

Here is a picture of my FP2NC being moved. A single solid bar through the casting, the Y axis all the way back and with the fixed table in place. It's pretty balanced.
All the Deckels on the way to their new home!
By your pictures, it looks to me, that the collector lead that 3055 has a fractured solder joint on the pcb,(circle around the solder joint). It is a common problem on devices that get hot. I would resolder all the leads on that transistor.
I had A Tech Authority, Inc in Chino,ca rebuild two scales on my FP2NC. They replaced the seals, cleaned and checked the output on one, and replaced the photo sensor, seals on the other. They did tell me that parts are getting hard to come by for these old scales, most internal parts are now...
So, I guess one way to go about this CAM stuff for the Dialog control is to draw a simple drawing, manually write a program and at the same time run the drawing through the CAM program and then compare the two to see what the CAM comes up with? Or is there a better way? The Mesh-cam comes with...
I found a CAM program that will work on Mac's, Mesh cam. Ross, how hard was it to write that post for D4? Did you start out with common control and modify it or start from scratch?
I am communicating to my FP2NC with Dialog 2 and an iMac using the serial port using a program called DNC-X. I can upload to the Mac,edit the code, and download it back to the FP2NC. Had to get a USB to serial cable and a made up a DB-9 to 1/4" cable. It works great! Although I input most of...
Thanks Ross for the detailed procedure, going to work on it today and get the scale shipped off. Of course I am in the middle of a run of suspension parts, when the error codes became less intermittent. I used Atech Authority before on the "Y" scale ,that was dead when I first got the machine...
What is the proper method for removing the "X" scale on the 2NC? I am getting more and more "V" error codes now that the shop temperature is up because of summer. I used to get them occasionally in the winter but not very often. The code always occurs in the same spot on the travel. I want to...
Wow, this is weird, I was just thinking about you the other day after Wrench popped back in for a visit on the board and was wondering what happened to the "Deckel Whisper". I hope you still have your Deckel museum. Wishing you the best from this time forward.
Ross,
Did you do the scraping yourself or did you farm it out like on the FP4nc? What lead you to scraping it, was it that far out (worn) or was it one of those, I have it apart this far why not check and touch it up?
Putting the wand on the operator side is a great idea. Got any pictures?
Very clean work on routing the wires and hoses, nice job on the enclosure at the back of the machine--looks factory, no, make that "looks like Ross did it" (even better!). :smoking:
Thanks. Well, since Ross used to...
No kidding on them drills, I have a 3", six insert face mill, that that is like a snow blower when surfacing aluminum. It would be nice to contain the chips, just got to brain storm on the solution.
It is nice to have the "M" control in the mix, just one last thing to remember to turn on & off. I might try and come up with a plan for some kind of small chip tray/ enclosure, but I like being able to get up close to the machine. Everything idea that I can come up with is a big compromise in...
