I have a new and now recurring customer that brings me jobs that aren't necessarily in my wheelhouse but a path I'm willing to pursue and make an investment in. I'm considering the purchase of a mag drill as the work doesn't necessitate the accuracy of a Bridgeport or CNC plus in some cases are too large/bulky for either machine but not something to the scale of this post https://www.practicalmachinist.com/...-too-heavy-for-the-table.419209/#post-4147953
Current project is drilling 1-1/16" holes in a 6' long 4"x4"x3/8" square tubing which I'll do on my Bridgeport.
The Hougen mag drills are on my list but am having trouble deciding which model to purchase. I'm currently thinking the HMD905 with swivel base would be the most versatile. I don't have a specific type project in mind (beyond the one listed above) and this one has a 2 speed motor so I could use both HSS and carbide annular cutters, the size of the cutters it can handle are likely within what I would use it for and its weight is reasonable to move around. I am not likely going to be using overhead and hard to see a situation currently where I'd use it vertical but maybe possible.

The other option is go big or go home and get the 3 speed HMD920. 10 lbs heavier but can pretty much cover any scenario.

Part of my dilemma is I don't know what project they are going to walk in the door with, all I know is they keep walking in the door and I'd rather not turn down the work.
If there's another recommendation for regular users of mag drills that you suggest I'm open other models like the HMD904 for example that Hougen lists as their most popular model.

I would be also purchasing a drill chuck with whatever unit I get.
Thanks for any input

If it was me, I would get the 905. Weight makes a big difference, I have been on jobsites having to sling a 50lb mag drill up in the air to place it, no fun at all. The idea of more speed choices isnt a real lure for me- drilling steel, slow is always good. I cant see much I would want to spin at 450 rpm, 250 is just fine. The larger diameter capacity of the 905 (2") is a bigger selling point to me. Make sure you get it with the parts to mount a chuck on it as well- lots of times you need to do things like drill a hole in a part for tapping on something too big to put on a bridgeport. annular carbide only goes down to something like 5/8".
