Mauser micrometer - missing part?

Hello Michael:

> ... managed to get one mic that you have.
Thank you for taking the time to do that for me.
Much appreciated. 8^D

> ... ballsize is 1.588 mm. 1/16 inch.
Ahh ...
It is the same size as the one I have, purchased locally at a bearing purveyor.

> Include a pic of the disassembled ringbreak.
Great ...

From the photo you have kindly posted, it is evident that my micrometer break is not correctly assembled (like another contributor noted) but for the life of me I have not been able to get it to fit that way.

So it's back to the work table till I get it to fit properly.
The BB I have is the right size/part so that is the only thing left to do.

I will post back as soon I can manage to do that, hopefully this week.
Once again, thank you very much for your help.

Best,

JHM

Hello:

Just an update.

I managed to assemble the brake correctly (like in your photo).
To be able to fit the pin in place some closing up of the inner ring was needed, a trial and error affaire.

It does adjust but the outer ring movement is not smooth and needs more force than I think should be used.

Also, once adjusted, there is same play (maybe a bit less?) I described in an earlier post.

It would seem that for the brake to work properly ie: tighten smoothly and have no play, some more adjustment has to be made to the inner ring.

Maybe it should be fit as close as possible to the spindle before assembly so that very little movement of the outer ring is needed to tighten on the spindle.

I'll look at it again this week-end and post my result.

Once again, thank you very much for your input.

Best,

JHM

Mr. Julius, don´t worry, we get your mouse up and running. In my repairs and cases like yours i do the following: Measure the bolt diameter in the ring to ensure, the right one is installed. It should read 1,960mm. If there´s slop in the ring due to excessive wear you could use the next size. I use small drills (HSS) and cut off a piece, like a 2,1mm one and lap it down to ,let´s say 2.02mm. You just have to try a little bit. That should bring you close to a solution.
And for your viewing conveniance just a very small part of my MAUSER collection in the repair lab.
Regards

Hello:

Of course.
Fortunately I have my newer one.
Buy I hate to see a good tool in bad shape.

Right, I'll check that.
