Hey all,
I have a traditional Bridgeport with J head, and I believe a 1 HP motor which is 3 Phase. In the past, I got a no-name VFD off EBay that lasted about a year before blowing one of the phases. It came with a manual that I could not make any sense of. With this experience, and after reading some forum warnings about avoiding the bargain basement units, I decided to spend a little bit more (~$204) and get a unit from Automation Direct, which seemed to have a good reputation. This is the model that I purchased: https://www.automationdirect.com/ad...y_drives_(vfd)/general_purpose_vfds/gs21-22p0
Now I am having the opposite problem -- an overwhelming amount of information! It comes with a 600+ page manual (https://cdn.automationdirect.com/static/manuals/gs20m/gs20m.html) that shows it's ability to be programmable for every conceivable configuration. I am trying to read through it, but it is overwhelming and I am feeling very lost.
What I want is as follows:
Any suggestions of how to get started?
Thanks in advance.

What I want is as follows:
- Input 220V single phase --> output 3 phase
- I will not plan on using the switch that comes with the motor. I will leave that switch in the on/forward position and control the motor with the VFD controls
- I want to have the VFD in a safe enclosure and run wires to mounted control box with 1) a switch with forward-off-reverse, 2) an E-stop button, and 3) a rotary dial (potentiometer) for speed control.
Any suggestions of how to get started?
Thanks in advance.
