I don't know if one can ascertain the model # from the serial number. I would estimate that the year of manufacture was around 1940-41. When describing a South Bend lathe, the top tier defining description, at minimum, is the swing, like 9", 10", 13" etc.

I will just take a guess that it is a 9 inch Workshop series lathe. Here is an original catalog from 1940:
