will using an overrated VFD damage my motor?

new to VFD , i am looking to install a 230v 3ph input / 230v 3ph out drive on a 3hp bandsaw.
surplus 3ph input 5hp,7hp, 10hp Delta vfd's are abundant and cheap . i will be driving a 3hp
motor . would a 10hp vfd hurt a 3hp motor ? the bandsaw has little startup torque and is directly
wired to the contactor.

thanks guys. i had assumed so, but i didn't know so...

they didn't have digital drives in the 1940s , the reeves drive on this machine is
badly worn, and only works well at certain speeds . i suppose a non-contact
tachometer device will be in order to calculate sf/m .

Rule of thumb I was taught was drive can be 10x larger than the motor.

Just need to adjust the parameters correctly to limit torque/amp output.

It's got to be the right voltage class, a 400 class will not run at 240VAC, that one is intended for 440-480VAC. Those 400 class VFDs are sneeky, and lots of them.
