Identifying an orphan steady rest for dovetail ways?

This turned up in a lot of accessories for an unrelated metal lathe. A mystery 10" steady rest, apparently for a dovetail way lathe. 5" from the bed to the center, a little less than 7" across the top of the surface in contact with the bed. Fairly good quality, appears to be '40s-60s (?) from the design and paint if I'm not mistaken. I looked up the dovetail lathes I'm familiar with and didn't see a matching steady. Any thoughts? Seems too small and too heavy to be for a wood lathe.

You may want to check on Vintage Machinery under Tool and cutter grinder or cylindrical grinder.
Many had an angled table edge.
There are many models that vary by type and age, but I would look under Brown and Sharpe first since the casting numbers remind me of some on my Brown and Sharpe Machine.

It wouldn't be an early one - The dovetail is the wrong way, isn't it?
That threaded stud looks like it might take a matching dovetail "clamp", which is apparently MIA.

Looks more like a grinder rest than a lathe rest to me.

I think you guys are right about it being a grinder rest. I can't find one just like it, but the base is very similar to many of the ones online.
