I am in the process of refurbishing a Deckel SO. It was neglected but still in great mechanical shape. I’ve stripped it completely and rebuilt using good parts and am now waiting on an order from Artco which includes replacement bearings for the spindle.
On taking the spindle apart I notice this free floating ring that sits behind the pulley. I’ve actually already had the spindle rebuilt but have taken it apart again to put the proper spec bearings in. I noticed that this ring has the potential to rub very slightly.
Can someone advise how this is supposed to go together? Is it supposed to just float in between the pulley and the front bearing?
I assume it’s a mechanism to keep dust out, but want to make sure I put it back properly.
