Well I don’t run the trains on time…

When I had the stroke it took my five days of multiple small strokes to finally get in to an emergency rm.
Just dumb and wishful thinking- “oh that was nothing”..

Well a couple of YEARS ago the dentist started telling me at checkups that my lymph nodes in the neck are swollen and I should get it checked.
Well for some reason it never sunk in till the last time when she said get it checked NOW!

Well surgery yesterday for the biopsy and now wait out the lab results.
My advice- see a doctor when you need one.
60 years of great health before the stroke had me indifferent to even serious issues.
Old habits are hard to break eh.

I remember seeing Warren Zevon on TV, shortly before he died of cancer. He was sort of making the rounds saying goodbye...the doctors told him he had a few weeks to live. He noted that he had always had a fear of doctor's visits and then commented, "Well, I guess I'm in the situation that arises from avoiding seeing a doctor for over 25 years...."

Inflammation is also a by product of a recent “ intervention “ so don’t panic quite yet, my mrs has inflammation in the lymph nodes too, no C traces in though. I’m not entirely convinced it was either safe or effective myself, but a voice in the wilderness it seems.
Get checked, twice, 2 heads are better than one, even if it’s a doctor.
If however you had already been told it’s not right, that would not imply some other factor.
I pray it works out ok,
Mark

The initial stroke complicated into a SAH bleed- three years ago-I wonder...
I feel great- diet, exercise and no drinking since the stroke has set my house in order plus I've got stuff to do- it would be a great inconvenience to drop dead!

I’m always in favour of getting a second opinion if things are getting serious.
A friend of mine was diagnosed with mesothelioma years ago. No cure of course. He was told he had a year left. That turned out to be about right.
However when they performed the autopsy they found no trace of mesothelioma, he had a bad case COPD. If this had have been diagnosed he could have been successfully treated and had several more years of life.

I think his last album was his best. It was all about the goodbyes.

I know the feeling, I had 2 or 3 mini strokes around the 2019 ish, connected? Horrible experience, a M.I. Came next, blood clots, triple bypass as one artery had completely blocked killing that bit of ticker,
You don’t notice health till it starts going away!, funny you start getting religious as it does, the grim reaper has converted more people than the pope I think.

I went 48+ years without spending a night in the hospital other than when I was born. 4 stays since then. Has made me get off my ass and try and exercise and take better care of myself and listen to my body more when something don't feel right.

To put a bit more flesh on my friend's story. I live in a real mesothelioma hot spot. What was once the biggest asbestos factory in the world is about 1 mile from where I live. So the medics around here are really experienced in the diagnosis of mesothelioma.
My friend had never worked in the industry, he was a school teacher, but over here school buildings have lots of asbestos panels in them so it wasn’t inconceivable that he could contract it.
When his sister came up to Rochdale after his death for an interview with his doctors she stayed with us. My wife went with her to the hospital to find out why things went so badly wrong.
The specialist explained that her brother had all the symptoms of mesothelioma. The only way to be sure was to perform a biopsy. In his past experience once a biopsy was performed it almost always speeded up the progress of the disease. It was as though contact with outside was an accelerator.
So it was a really difficult decision to make.My friend, guided by the doctor, decided against the biopsy.
The specialist was actually in tears by the end of the interview.

I vowed that if I ever find myself in this situation I would at least ask for another opinion given what is at stake.

Labs in.

Benign- “reactive process” so far.
Seems B-cell type lymphoma eliminated by test, remote chance of T-cell “safely ignored”, while Hodgkins type not addressed by study.
I need to speak with someone on last point but progress in the right direction.

Damn the cannons eh- it’s a relief- every description of problems uses the “if caught early” phrase for outcomes.

Thanks all

I accidentally noticed my swollen neck lymph nodes... luckily a company nurse was strolling past the door at that moment and I let her check them out.
Immediately, she got a serious look and told me to get to the hospital. Next day biopsy... next day diagnosed with NonHodgkins Lymphoma.
Now, cancer free for years....

I still miss that old Russian.

I think the quote was:
"Probably a tactical error not going to the doctor for forty years."

My doctor of thirty five years is retiring, and trying to find a replacement is a bitch. I've seen four up until now and still no bueno.

Poor, Poor pitiful me.

Boy- mine took longer than that.

Day 1- “Get checked NOW”.
Day 4- Visit it an urgent care place and “go to a surgeon for biopsy”.
Day 7- Visit to surgeon and referral to imaging.
Day 28- Consultation with surgeon and biopsy scheduled.
Day 32- Surgery.
Day 35- First lab results received.
Day 36- Waiting out 2nd set of labs for morphology re- Hodgkins.

I had lymph nodes the size of grapes in various places. Took awhile to figure it out, but it was wheat gluten that was causing it. Cut out the wheat and they went to normal within 48 hours.
