OT - New machine worth a look

They were at IMTS and had a standalone machine and one adapted to a Haas VMC. The parts were about what I'd expect for laying down MIG wire welds robotically to build a part, as in, having a corduroy surface and probably quite a few internal metallurgical defects. The process obviously was too slow for anything except high-value parts that can't be gotten any other way. Still, I can see a market.

Sometimes you see a new product or technology, and it's like you're looking at an old Popular Mechanic magazine toting how kids will use nuclear fax machines by 1994. Other times I think the "future" way of doing things is pretty well zeroed in on. Someday I could see our shop having 5 of these things. Not today though:(.
