I need to replace the clutches in my Clausing Colchester 1550 lathe.

I need to replace the clutches in my Clausing Colchester 1550 lathe. Does anyone know what I am about to get into? I am considering changing the reverse clutches with the forward clutches to buy some time. Is this a bad idea? How difficult is it to remove the countershaft and replace these clutches?
