Mystery Exposed Thread Micrometer

I picked this mic up a little while ago, and cant find any similar examples online that look like this one.\

Does anyone have any guesses?

I'm not surprised you haven't found any other examples!

It looks as though the thimble is stationary, and you have to chase the fiducial line round on the spindle! What madness is this?

It's certainly keeps the price down, combining the thimble and the female thread in one component.

It's not a thread micrometer. It is a very early example of a micrometer. It's an antique.

I have seen those before, can't remember the maker but mid 20th c. as I recall. It was factory made.

I'm pretty sure you should parse "exposed thread micrometer" as "micrometer with exposed thread", not as "exposed micrometer for measuring threads". Especially since, you know, it's a micrometer with exposed thread.
